RE: High blood pressure
As far as I know, diet and exercise is supposed to help. I personally struggle with low blood pressure.

Mines erratic*.

I am more bothered when it's low.

*and it's not that erratic, slightly high on occasion to briefly significantly low more often, but just pausing and it sorts itself out soon enough.

RE: High blood pressure
I have high BP. My eating habits are not great, and so my BMI is bad. As a mobility-impaired person, I have a hard time getting creative with exercises that I can do at home (I am at a PT clinic operated by a local university). I have been put on lisinopril and HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) for this.

My family does CrossFit, and that seems to work. I used to do wheelchair track and road racing as a kid. I like to watch cross country but when I raced, that was when off-road wheelchairs were only in the prototype stage. Late 80's/early 90's.

I never considered it, but I suppose eating poorly might help to raise my BP lol

And what about weight.. They say lose your weight for high BP.. So is it gain more weight for low BP? Then there's exercise..more exercise for high BP so less exercise for low BP? T then there's sleep.. More for high BP so..less for you? very confusing.. we'll probably need becs to do a surgery or something.. Vorly seem enthusiastic.....I'll lure him with a poster of David Beckham..you sharpen the knifes...

RE: High blood pressure
My doctor put me on a pill to control my BP.

It's fine and it makes him very happy.

I have long since determined that my function is to make him happy.

RE: High blood pressure
A whole lot of good information at Hypertension Canada.

A few things to be aware of:
  • There's more than one type of hypertension, and the treatment varies depending on what type you have.
  • Blood pressure is connected in many ways to kidney health, and blood sugar control can also be a factor.
  • Unless you have body chemistry with low sodium, cutting down on salt in the diet is usually a very good idea.  Be aware that dairy products, including milk, contain a lot of sodium.
  • Losing a bit of weight also has a positive effect on blood pressure control.  In addition to eating sugars and starches in moderation, keeping a diary of everything you eat will help you track and control your eating habits.
  • And yes, exercise is good too, especially if you have a sedentary desk job.
(Disclaimer:  I am not a doctor, but I've typed a lot of hypertension reports and know the general lay of the land.)
