Hi all!

Hi all!
Just wanted to chime in and say "Hello". I've been lurking around the forum for a couple of days and really liked what I saw! It's nice to have a place to chat with like-minded individuals especially since I live in the bible belt...sigh. A little about myself; I'm a 36yo male in sunny (if not thermally oppressive) Florida. I've been an atheist for about 20 years. For now, I am married to a beautiful women and we have two children. We don't necessarily share similar views on faith, or a lot of other things for that matter. If I had to put a label on her it would be "Southern Belle Agnostic". She doesn't know what to believe, but she doesn't want anyone to know that either...sheesh. The public school system is so bad here, my children actually attend Christian school. I like dropping them off in the moring with Ozzy blaring through the speakers! I was raised Catholic by default but never forced to attend. I tried to attain whatever it is people of faith feel, but never quite "got it". I guess I have my priest (and the Discovery Channel) to thank for my being atheist, but probably not in a way anyone could have guessed. I really hope to enjoy my time here and look forward to many meaningful discussions!

Thanks everything...I actually have one for the bumper of my car, but can't find a spot flat enough to stick it too!

"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

Hello!

Music revenge is the best kind. Smile Every time there's a race here in Charlotte, a church likes to camp out and preach over loudspeakers and big-speaker-microphones to both the huge mall (economic sin, I guess) and the NASCAR fans (drunken revelry). I like to exercise my right to play Judas Priest and Metallica at ear splitting levels with the windows down whenever I get stuck next to them in traffic.

"In short, Meyer has shown that his first disastrous book was not a fluke: he is capable of going into any field in which he has no training or research experience and botching it just as badly as he did molecular biology. As I've written before, if you are a complete amateur and don't understand a subject, don't demonstrate the Dunning-Kruger effect by writing a book about it and proving your ignorance to everyone else!
