Then we need to fix it. Otherwise we're just committing suicide, and taking the cats along with us.

No, anthropology says if you are in Iran in you would think the American is 5,000 miles away while the alien is 500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles away, and the alien hasn't saved me from the wickedness of the great Satan up to now, why should I believe he would make the great Satan less Satanic in the future? Remember the arrival of the Spanish in America did not relieve the native Americans of their unfortunate tendency to kill each other by the slightest amount until the Spanish and small pox has killed so many native Americans that the native american's zest for fratricide became hampered by the resulting reduction in frequency of encounter between large numbers. If discovery of alien intelligence led to world peace it would likely because the said alien intelligence in the period after the discovery left too few of us alive to really have another go at each other. Throw one outside, and provided it has front claws, it will start hunting for itself almost immediately. A dog, on the other hand, will probably starve to death.
... and if the cats don't survive, pfft. Big loss.

There are, as I understand it, legions of feral dogs running around Moscow. My friend was cornered by a pack recently, she managed to pepper spray them and get away. Now she moves meat from her car to the building entrance with a great deal of alacrity. Dogs can survive too. I'd still put my money on my 37 pound tom cat in a fight with a dog, however. Okay, take 10 of your cat, and 10 dogs.
But then they'll fight like..... Oh never mind.
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.
I'll put my money on the dogs. There's a reason why "treed cat" is a phrase in English.

That's only because dogs are capable of, but not constrained to, being gentlemanly. My neighbor has a St. Bernard capable of turning any cat and sizeable fraction of the adult human population into a single paw print. He takes up an entire elevator car, and horses turn and bolt when he approaches. |
