Excuse me bartender, can you spare me a game?

Excuse me bartender, can you spare me a game?
Yes, the owner had the right to do what he did. But, I ALSO had the right to walk out which is what I did.

So I don't have NFL Network at my house so I decide to go take a cab to a local bar, because, well, beer goes with football but not driving. Anywho, I anticipate the Skins getting their butts kicked, but being the glutton for punishment, gotta watch. If you are going to be put in front of the firing squad, no point in a blindfold. But my Skins sucking is not the point of the story here.

So the cab drops me off, I walk in, all the countless tv's are lit up. I should have known something was up because no games were on, I walk sit down at the bar, and ask the bartender if she can put the Skin's Seattle game on........AAAAAAANDDDDD

Her response was, " We don't have the NFL package anymore, the owner is boycotting because of the players kneeling." Without a beat, I stood up, said to her, "Those players make the owners rich." Got up and walked out.

Now before my detractors get on auto pilot and start posting crap, PLEASE re read the part I said, "he had the right to do it" but at the same time don't ignore that I also had the right to do what I did.

He is an idiot on two fronts. Business owners are about money, and the other thing that seemed off this time, was the amount of people there. The other times I was there on a Sunday there were far more people. So sure he can call it principle if he wants, but from what I saw, especially during fall in a resort beach town, if you are going to be open, seems pretty stupid to shoot yourself in the foot by taking away a draw like NFL games to bring people in, but Ok. His loss.

The other people I feel sorry for are the wait staff and bartenders, they are loosing tips because of that moron. If we strictly want to make it about money.

But the most important thing, which has been said in other threads, this owner, MISSES THE POINT, just like anyone who sides with him. The players ARE NOT SAYING they hate America by kneeling. They ARE NOT SAYING they hate our military by kneeling. They are saying we have a problem we need to address and we need to improve on inequality and race issues.

Protest is what got women the right to vote, protest ended segregation, and those are good things. It upsets me tremendously is that those on the right are fooled into thinking these players are rich so should not complain. That is not why they protest. They are very happy they live in a country where they can do what they do. But they also see it as an opportunity to bring light to those whom come from the same communities they do, that don't have it so good.

There is no ill will on the player's part by protesting, there is ignorance on those who don't understand why they do. And that is one bar I will not be returning to. That is my kneeling in solidarity with the players protesting.

I can't figure out what this is about.

Besides, NFL of course. What bartender?

So, the owner of the bar is boycotting the NFL because some players are practicing their right to protest in a non violent way not to stand for the national anthem?

Yes, he has the right to do that.

And, as you say, you have the right not to give him your business.

Did you check out any other bars?

I think it is pretty obvious. The owner of the bar I went to, decided to stop playing NFL games because he didn't like the players protesting. I didn't know because I hadn't been there in several weeks. So when I showed up today, and found out he was a dick, I turned around and walked out.

Point is this has been in the news for a long time that NFL players are kneeling during the anthem. I am with the players, that moron is with the owners.

But if you are talking about the title of the thread, it is a take off of the depression meme, back then, "Excuse me, but could you spare a dime".

That phrase is even older than me considering, but I remember it from all sorts of news, documentaries , and memes and even a Buggs Bunny cartoon spoofing Humphrey Bogart begging for money.

"Excuse me but can you spare a game?", Is a take off of the depression meme "Can you spare a dime?"

No, cabs cost money, on top of the food and beer. No, I missed the game, went back home. I am not a bar hopper. It just means the next time, got to plan ahead. I didn't see that coming because the bar had the games before. It would cost me more to take a cab to another bar. This isn't the big city where bars exist on every corner.

I'm not. Yea, it's annoying, the owner is a moron. But now I know where the idiot stands and know where not to go.

Not saying that the bar owner is not a moron, but he's just doing what you have said you want people to do, Brian. Put principle over profit. "Protest is more important than profit". You said yourself that there are things more important than profit when it comes to running a business, and it seems the bar owner agrees with you.

No, his right to be a moron is not the issue, he is simply FLAT OUT WRONG, and ignorant.

Countless people even outside this website, not just the players, but SANE people, have repeatedly said the players doing this ARE NOT objecting to the Anthem, or shitting on the military. They are doing the right thing by pointing out inequity both in economics and in dealing with law enforcement. These were the same type of protests that went on during the 60s and 70s.

These players who protest, ARE NOT bitching just to bitch, they are doing what Susan B did in trying to gain the right to vote, what Rosa Parks did in the 60s, what Harvy Milk did for gays. They don't hate America, they are protesting because they see a problem and want it addressed.

He has a right go be a FUCKING DICK, and I had I had the right to walk out. FYI JUST THIS MORNING, I ran into one of his employees at a gas station, who was JUST AS PISSED as I was and agreed with me.

Now, if that selfish fuck wants to be just about money alone, why the fuck would you cut the games knowing it helps draw people in on what is a slow day in resort town in the off season?

He's just another ignorant FUCK. Does he have the right to be an ignorant fuck? YES, and I walked out because I will not support an IGNORANT FUCK.

Again, dipshits like that owner are always about bitching about taxes. GREAT, then he should be against the OWNERS blackmailing cities to get TAX PAYERS to fund free digs.

I will support the players, I will support minorities, and ALL labor. I am tired of assholes like him benefiting off society then shitting on the very people that do the bulk of the work and make morons like him rich.

I even said in the prior posts, because of this stupid logic, not only does he miss out on his own profits because of fewer people showing up. HIS WAIT STAFF, and BARTENDERS miss out on tips.

Not really a way to be a "job creator" if you have less people coming through the door.

Morally he is an idiot, but even just on economics, he is also a fucking moron.

Yes he has a right to be a moron, and I had the right to walk out which I did.

I don't see the issue. Yes, people get less tips there. So what? The same thing is happening with the NFL. Fans/former fans are spending less money. I watched a report about a woman selling team merch, and way less people are buying now. That store owner is hurting because of the players, just like the bartenders at the bar you went to are hurting. I thought before you said that there are bigger things than money? Why talk about money now? Who cares if the bar owner is "wrong". He's not hurting people in any different way than the players are. The bar owner is not trying to take people's right's away. He's not protesting against marriage equality or Black Lives Matter, so he's simply peacefully protesting without really hurting anyone other than costing some tips (and those people can quit and work somewhere else if they like), and he caused you and others who might want to watch the game a little inconvenience. Big deal. He has no moral obligation to turn his TV to a bunch of grown men throwing a ball around to eachother. He's not some piece of crap just because he decided to change the TV channel. It's just a damn game. It may not be smart business wise, but that's his business and he can do what he wants with it. I'll start caring when he starts bashing gays or blacks and protests over that. Not playing a game at a bar though? I think you're just pissed that you were inconvenienced and didn't get to end up watching the game. That sucks but it's life.

You are still missing my point.

The players risking losing money and or their jobs trying to do the right thing IS THE RIGHT THING. The owner being an ignorant fuck, will lose him money.

We saw the same shit with pro sports in the 60s and 70s and the Olympics, and the same fucking bigots and or simply ignorant assholes lost money, just like the jocks. If you want to equate it to a tug of war, there is still a right side of history.

No I am not simply pissed to be pissed. I am frustrated that it is 2017 and we are still being held hostage by assholes who don't like the fact that times have changed.

Did you not read the part where his employee THIS MORNING agreed with me?

Don't make this about me. What matters are the players DOING THE RIGHT THING, the fact I support them means I am being vocal for the right side of history.

FYI it isn't about the game, it is about the owners not having the guts to stand up for minorities or their labor for that matter.

AGAIN, the players are NOT protesting because they hate having more money than most. They are not protesting simply for attention. They are protesting for the SAME REASON Susan B Anthony did what she did. For the same reason Harvey Milk did what he did.

I talk to vets on twitter, not just one, but SEVERAL, both black and white VETERANS, and if any idiot thinks all vets support 45 or the GOP on this issue, sorry, but that is flat out bullshit.

Black players ARE NOT protesting because they hate America or the Anthem, they are protesting just like a Coptic Christian would protest against their treatment in Egypt, or a Kurdish Christian in Iraq.

Pro sports has a LONG HISTORY of providing venues for minorities, and today is no different. We have come too far as a Nation to allow one party and one asshole president to turn back the clock on social issues.

I not only support them because I accept minorities unfortunately get the short end of the stick, even today, I support them because they are also labor. I don't think the top cares enough about either at this point in history.
