Florida International University pedestrian bridge collapse
On all the news channels now.

Spanned 8 lanes of traffic, crushed occupied vehicles, may have had work crew on it at time of collapse.

Major structural failure. Rescue/recovery operations ongoing.

In what area of Florida?

If it's not the Clearwater, Largo, St. Pete, Tampa area, it's not anywhere near me.

Bridge wasn't even completed. Reports are it was either being tested or post tensioned when it failed.

What's left of it is a rather striking precast steel reinforced concrete structure. Apparently made off site and erected last Saturday. Approaches unfinished.

It was apparently designed for a service lifespan of 100 years and survive category 5 hurricane. AFAIK, 100 years have not lapsed since last saturday, nor have any hurricanes graced Florida.
