Duh. I was after a more complicated answer. I have ALL the Pern books written or co-written by herself, with the Toddesque ones pending that slow march.

McCaffrey was one of if not my favorite author in the late 70's early 80's. The Dragonriders of Pern and Harper Hall Trilogies were by far her best works.

I put "Masterharper" in with the Harper Hall books because Robinton. I sympathize with him in a great many ways, and McCaffrey showed in those books that people can rise above their previous ... unfortunate ... circumstances, a lesson that needs repeating every so often.

Couldn't hurt to try. You'll definitely want to read them in order of publication as opposed to in the chronological order from the story line though. Order of publication for the first six (of 24) books was:

Dragonflight (1968)
Dragonquest (1970)
Dragonsong (1976)
Dragonsinger (1977)
The White Dragon (1978)
Dragondrums (1979)
