Undue Familiarity

RE: Undue Familiarity
I think we're straying from Boru's original post which was basically about common courtesy.

I think it's simple. If I don't like the company's products or service or attitude towards me, I look elsewhere.
Life's too short for me to fuck around and waste my time on unprofessional businesses.

The people you speak to ARE the business for all intents and purposes, and if they are rude and unprofessional BEFORE they have your money, I dread to think of what they'll be like once they DO have it...

Walk away and don't even give them the time of day...
No God, No fear.

Both sides are at fault. They should’ve immediately called you by your preferred title once notified, and you’re also an uptight old coot for insisting upon being called Mr like a damn Bond villain.

Boru

That's the important bit.

I like people to call me by my first name...but I can see where you're coming from. Imagine this:

I'm not necessarily going to say what my first name is, for privacy reasons. But imagine if my first name was Michael and I didn't mind being called Mike but I really hated Mick? And I literally told the other person more than once that they can call me anything they like, just not Mick. And the other person was like "Okay Mick".... that's just them being a cunt.

*fans self* Oh my... I would have had a total freak out too darlin. As a military brat and southern girl calling someone by their first name when not invited to is the ultimate sin against manners (ShellB knows my love for manners lol) I would NEVER have the guts to call someone by their first name. Hell I even call my boss Mrs. Beth. I would 100% expect to be called Mrs. Rodriguez by anyone I was doing business with. The kids I taught at the daycare called me Mrs. Mandy. I could at least handle someone in the business world calling me Mrs. Amanda but just Amanda I would have complained as well.

There have only been two types of incidents that I have broken the golden rule of address someone how they ask to be addressed. One) At the daycare a child's legit name was Prince Isiah and his cousin Ya'Majesty. Isiah was not acceptable to him and I sure as hell wasn't saying Ya'Majesty like I was a fuckin subject so they were called by their last name. (Which I'm used to doing since my mom's friends all went by their last names around us since everyone was military) And now the older clientele sometimes asks to be called by their first name and it hurts too much to call one of my elders by their first name only like some kind of disrespectful brat so I compromise and call them Mr. First Name.

Fun fact: My mom met her boyfriend while they were both in the military so we all got used to calling him by his last name and now 8 years later they live together and only my mom and I call him by his first name. The rest of the family can't remember his first name half the time and the other half they don't care because to them that's his name.
“What screws us up the most in life is the picture in our head of what it's supposed to be.”

Also if your signature makes my scrolling mess up "you're tacky and I hate you."

I don’t understand the desire to be call Mr. or Ms. lastname. It feels so odd to me when people call me that. I’m just a person, I’m not fancy.

But I guess I can get your frustration. I hate being called Steph and some people insist on calling me that even though I’ve asked them repeatedly not to. And that’s really annoying.

Usually people calling me Mr. Lastname are strangers trying to sell me something. It's what triggers the outermost ring of my BS detector.

And the moral of this story is: We're all different and we all like to be called different things... but repeatedly being called something you've repeatedly said you don't like being called, is unbelievably rude.
