In which case, maybe today there would be a religion worshiping a huckster illusionist.

...aren't those the evangelicals?

Good point!
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

Here's a cartoon I thought you'd enjoy!

I had a feeling you'd relate to that cartoon! I'm guessing there's a lot of truth in it!

How many Jewish mothers does it take to change a lightbulb?

None.... "I'll just sit here in the dark...."

You forgot to add "I don't want to be a bother..."

There was some post in here where I answered it and said that many stereotypes are false, but some are absolutely true. Jewish mothers? Well...I'm not neurotic for nothing.

Although mine has been "mellowing", shall we say, with age? Somewhat...sorta...I have a feeling once my little brother has moved out, she'll have nothing to do and BAM it'll be back to picking at her eldest. [sigh]

I put enough sugar in my bread to start the yeast...how much sugar was added and what bread were you trying? Mine tastes like...bread.

I was referring to commercial breads which was given in delis cafe and in rolls in restaurants. I don't include kosher delis (in New York,on Manahttan) at which I always had rye or bagels. There are no kosher delis at all in my city.

In my experience there is no such thing as 'just bread'. It's different in every country. Sometimes the difference is subtle, sometimes not,as in say Italian and and French breads.I found the 'ordinary' commercial bread in the US noticeably sweeter than ours.

Today the issue is moot. I've developed type 2 diabetes,so eat only wholemeal or full grain breads,as white bread has a much higher glycemic index. I make my own as much as I can

Yes, I've heard that the "Jewish mother" jokes are basically true. Reminds me of another one:

A Jewish mother gives her daughter two sweaters on her birthday. The daughter tells her mother how beautiful they are and how much she loves them! To show the mother how happy she is, the daughter takes the sweaters and runs into the bedroom. A minute later she comes out proudly wearing one of the sweaters.

Her mother scowls at the daughter and says, "So the other one you didn't like?".

That's why they have caller ID!
