We won’t know the truth unless the plane is found. Any speculation based on received signals, other tracking methods, data found in the pilot’s home, etc. is still speculation.

I’m fine with it being a mystery until the plane is found.

And it will be a mystery until then. We will have, and already have had, rather bizarre theories fielded. Nothing reality based, of course.

I believe that plane was carrying lithium-ion batteries as cargo - something it would be illegal to do in the US on a passenger flight. A fire makes the most sense to me. Some investigator put together a fire scenario that explained all the observed happenings. I read it over two years ago but I don't remember the source.

What kind of fire will leave the plane physically airworthy but disable the crew and communication system so suddenly, cause the fly by wire plane to take drastic course and altitude changes and then return to straight and level flight?

I don't recall the article I read in much detail but it was written by someone who was familiar with the plane's systems. If I remember correctly, he was on one of the investigative teams.

What's the advantage of not having the plane found?

To keep his murder/suicide his dirty little secret, I suppose. As not to bring down his name or his family. That would be my best guess as to why this guy wanted to hide the whole thing. It seems pretty obvious that he did it.

That seems like a pretty forlorn hope.

You mean like an accident - all mechanical errors?

A single electrical short in the cockpit controls could have taken down multiple systems either all at once or in a cascade. Yes, there are failsafes to prevent that. But, no failsafe is perfect.

I remember reading that too. It was before the info came out that the plane headed south, though. Once we found out it headed south and flew for another 6 hours, the fire scenario didn't make sense anymore.

Apparently not, as its been 4 years and we still haven't found the damn thing. Another huge search just ended today. No clues.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

One of the Aussie couples were the owners of a real estate agency in our little town of Sunbury where I live.
It touched everybody here.
