Lets get rid of primary elections when electing our president

Yes... but you need to understand why their is an electoral college system. Just repeating that it’s not a simple majority over and over doesn’t make a case to remove it.

Quote:In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.” To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: “If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.

What I want are open primaries. Let independents vote in primaries for Dems and Repubs and it'll hopefully pull the candidates back toward the center in an effort to win over a whole group of voters who get pushed to the side during primaries.

Independents are voters, too, and right now candidates are incentivised (sp?) to appeal to their base and only their base to even get to the nomination. Open it up.

If we had open primaries would Trump have been elected? Would Bernie have won the nom over Clinton?

Why do we allow it? Because the established professional politicians are invested in the broken, two party system. Way too many palms getting greased to change the system now. At least short of a revolution which the public is too fat, happy (no matter how much they bitch around the water cooler) and mesmerized by TV to be bothered with.

Nope this is not a gate or a fence across the road it's a piece or abstract art in the center of the road that prevents anyone from moving beyond . It not for the man who wants to move the obstruction  to explain why an obstruction should be moved it's up to the person who wants to keep it to explain why and why all such roads do not have such an obstruction .

Soon on my reading list is “Draining the swamp” by Ken Buck. Note: he swears he had the title before Trump and there is no connection to the POTUS catch phrase. He was talking about how to be on a sucommitee for say defense, that they have to raise millions of dollars, and pay a fee to their party, in order to have a voice. Who is goi g to give them millions of dollars out of the goodness of their hearts..... of course defense contractors. I think that there is a lot going on in American politics that most would be shocked by.

I think we may be shocked at the depth of the greed, but not by the greed itself no matter how deep it runs.

Not the first time it happened either.  Bush didn't win the popular vote, but the incompetent Electoral College went against the people and chose him anyway.

So clearly every time the EC feels having a Democrat in office again is threatening the country, they decided to ruin the country by electing the Republican. It makes no sense, and it's why I won't vote until the EC is gone.

Which electoral college votes went against who they represented? I think you are misunderstanding how it works.
