It pointed out a specific town not a building read the Bible and you can find such simple answers. The star set past the horizon where the town was. At a certain time of year i can watch the sun set exactly where the city I grew up in is. Stars do the same, this particular star was a planet in retrograde.

I hate to have to keep pointing out what your own fucking book says but it says no such thing.
Quote: Matthew 2:9 King James Version (KJV)
9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
Maybe you should try reading the fucking thing, G-C? Then again, it has obviously done enough damage.

Glad to have cleared that up for everyone.
Again your lack of understanding is atrocious. Your understanding of the concepts of biblical ideas is even more atrocious. The word innocent as applied to those male children would mean they did not deserve to die at the command of man, especially one that was as crazy and insecure as Herod. God punishes sin and man commits the sin as Herod did with those children.

Your trying to say a very specific place and I'm saying that it was the city where the Christ child was born. The Bible doesn't say the star stopped over the stable, it says the place. A planet in retrograde will stop at a specific point in the sky and from a persons perspective at the time and place they are it would look as it it stopped over a certain place. I've challenged you to look at the DVD "The Star of Bethlehem," but stubborn you just can't do it. I read the book you sent me when I first came to this site, I took your challenge. The star and the planet both had names and yes at that time with significant meaning to who the Christ child was to be, imagine that.

That reads more to me that the people of the time did not understand perspective when it comes to distance and the stars so they just kept following it until it brought them to their destination.
Remember at this time people in that area still believed in a firmament.
You should watch the DVD called "the Star of Bethlehem," it can answer those ideas of the knowledge people had of the heaven at that time in history.

Due to the Earth's rotation relative to the solar system's and galaxy's ecliptic planes, following a star (as in walking exactly in the direction of the star) does not work very well. Over a night, you will end up walking in a semi-circle, not in a straight line. There are two reasons for this:
1) The star appears to move during the night because of the Earth's rotation; and
2) The tilt of the Earth's axis (again, relative to the plane of the solar system's and the Milky Way's ecliptics) makes the star appear to change orientation when compared to any terrestrial direction. For example, the star Sirius (often considered the Star of the Magi in the Biblical literature) will point due East but only on certain days and at certain times. On other days and at different times it will not point due East. And, of course, as night passes that star faces South then West.
One other point. At no time during the year does Sirius appear directly overhead when the observer is in the Middle East (or anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere). That only occurs at about 17º S latitude (e.g., Fiji Islands).
Astronomy 101.
The Bible did not say the star appeared directly over head and that would not be a necessity. The star was a planet in retrograde that's why it appeared to stop.

I would guess all this stuff seems funny to those who can't conceive what's being discussed.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

GC So, children deserve to die at the command of god/goddess.
I just wonder, can command of god be used as a criminal defense?

Star or planet, and you seem unable to make your mind up, it matters not a whit. Neither can indicate a particular stable/house/city/continent.
Learn 3D spatial reasoning FFS. If the three dumbasses simply walked around to the other side of the barn/city/whatever, the star/planet would still be on the horizon while the barn was now behind them.

We all know the bible doesn't really give a shit about children. They wind up dead all the time. What about it?
Children wind up dying every day because of war and starvation while the world stands by and watches. Kim kills his people violently nearly every day while the whole world watches and this could have been easily stopped before he gain nuclear weapon, it's the human race who doesn't care about children and that includes you. I've never personally killed a child, or ordered someone else to do so. Now maybe I'm not running around the world trying to adopt as many children as I can, but I'm a limited Human with his own life to live. I'm still better than your god, though.

Perhaps, these stories even made us better people (well, at least some of us).
Anyway, if Herod was one of the characters in the Game of Thrones, you would say that this massacre of children was a horrendous act. Right?
Yes, but Herod is a figure from history and it matters whether he actually did it or not. If he did it, it's horrible. If he didn't, it's not like he didn't commit crimes we actually have more evidence of that are worthy of condemnation. Herod was a right bastard, even if he didn't have a bunch of babies murdered. If he did, he's an even worse bastard. What's your point?

Yeah that makes it a lot more plausible now.
The nearest star (actually three stars) is Alpha A & B and Proxima Centauri. Obviously near enough that they can move beyond the speed of light around the Earth in a circle with a radius of 4.37 light years to pick out a city (but not a stable) and then back to their original places during the day time. All makes perfect sense now.
Far more sensible to suggest this than that it was actually some kind of a Chinese lantern.

Bullshit. I'm telling you what your precious KJV says in the only place that such an absurd story is told. You are trying to make excuses for it so it doesn't sound as fucking stupid as it is.
That is called apologetics and I see no reason to let you get away with it. It says what it says. Live with it and move on with your life groveling to your non-existent god.
