Is this what being a skeptic is to you? A giant joke? If it is and you are planning to be cynical about it you are wasting your own time and ours as well.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that I find it the slightest bit funny.

Some people deny a lot of things. I once found a group online that are Nuclear weapon denialists. Like, they don't exist and no real A-bomb/nuke has ever been used ever, just a really large bomb.

I saw a documentary once where a bunch of raping militia in the African bush believed if they chewed some plant it would protect them from HIV, so they would go around spreading HIV to women and girls while believing it wouldn't affect them. Assholes.

Other assholes believe that rawdogging a virgin (with or without her consent) will cure them.

Of course, Mbeki's successor Jacob Zuma isn't that much better; while he does seem to believe there's a link between HIV and AIDS, before being elected president, he was on trial for raping an HIV positive staffer (he was eventually acquitted, although given the blatant corruption that's surrounded Zuma since day one, take that with a grain of salt) and he admitted that he did not wear a condom, but seriously thought that showering afterward would reduce the odds of transmission.

To be fair, it is easier for a woman to get HIV from a man than vice versa, from what I've read.

Of course, there's also Americans with a sizable political pull who believe HIV does not cause aids:

Yes, this was the spokesman for the American Family Association (at least he was at the time) saying this. And that's only the tip of the iceberg here.

Depressingly, the Virgin Cleansing Myth remains widespread in sub-Saharan Africa, and, recently, a documentary called Tapestries of Hope was made about Betty Makoni and her work trying to empower young girls who either were or are at risk of being raped because they seriously believe it'll cure them of AIDS (and not spread it further), and the makers were arrested and briefly imprisoned by Mugabe and his goons for making the documentary, which was briefly siezed and almost destroyed.

Yes, this happens to young girls AS YOUNG AS A DAY OLD.

Well, this shit merits a Jesse Custer, although, given the depressing history of colonisation of Africa, I'm honestly kind of concerned about looking racist.
