Poetry or Lyrics that Inpire you
Annie Johnson Flint

"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

Old Men, by Ogden Nash

People expect old men to die,
They do not really mourn old men.
Old men are different. People look
At them with eyes that wonder when…
People watch with unshocked eyes;
But the old men know when an old man dies.

Boru

EDIT, copy and paste didn't let me print the entire poem.

"Cut" by Sylvia Plath, is what I tried to post the entirety of.

The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe

His alliteration and imagery I love so much.

Anything by Mark Doty:

A Green Crab’s Shell

Not, exactly, green:
closer to bronze
preserved in kind brine,

something retrieved
from a Greco-Roman wreck,
patinated and oddly

muscular. We cannot
know what his fantastic
legs were like--

though evidence
suggests eight
complexly folded

scuttling works
of armament, crowned
by the foreclaws'

gesture of menace
and power. A gull's
gobbled the center,

leaving this chamber
--size of a demitasse--
open to reveal

a shocking, Giotto blue.
Though it smells
of seaweed and ruin,

this little traveling case
comes with such lavish lining!
Imagine breathing

surrounded by
the brilliant rinse
of summer's firmament.

What color is
the underside of skin?
Not so bad, to die,

if we could be opened
into this--
if the smallest chambers

of ourselves,
similarly,
revealed some sky.
Nay_Sayer: “Nothing is impossible if you dream big enough, or in this case, nothing is impossible if you use a barrel of KY Jelly and a miniature horse.”

Wiser words were never spoken.

"River" by AKB48 (This is the official Studio48 translation from Japanese, which is why it seems a little... off... in English.)

Advance forward! (Got it!)
Don't you dare to halt! (Got it!)
Our aim is that place where the sun rise
Walk on the path of hope!

What blocked this path is River! River! River!
A stretched-out River!
The fated River! River! River!
An ordeal River!

Throw away all your doubts!
Show your willpower!
Don't hesitate!
Immediately
One step forward! Believe yourself!

Forward forward!
Go straight ahead!
Cross the river!! Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho!

A dream is always
Looked so far away
Feels like its distance could not be reached
Pick up that stone
Under your foot
And with all your might
Throw it away!

Just before your very eyes
A river is flowing
Broadly, such a great river
Darkly, deeply, even so
The current is fast, even so
Do not be scared, OK?
Do not wander off
That's right, the opposite side is there
So more, believe in yourself

Inside the darkness
Just keep swimming!
Don't turn your head! Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho!

When you extend your hand, there
Future exists, you see
Don't give up on the thing you can not reach!
The stone that you toss
Is the dream granter
Somehow its falling sound could not be heard

Inside your heart too
A river is flowing
So painful, a river of trial
Maybe it doesn't go smoothly, even so
Sometimes you're almost drown, even so
It's OK to repeat again
Do not give it up
The bank exists just there
Someday your struggle will bring you to it

Get over it!
RIVER!

AH-AH-AH-AH-
Stop telling excuse to yourself!
AH-AH-AH-AH-
Can't do nothing but keep going!
AH-AH-AH-AH-
Gotta keep moving forward!

Keep going keep going keep going
Keep walking on
The path you've decided!

Just before your very eyes
A river is flowing
Broadly, such a great river
Darkly, deeply, even so
The current is fast, even so
Do not be scared, OK?
Do not wander off
That's right, the opposite side is there
So more, believe in yourself

Inside your heart too
A river is flowing
It is, a river of sweat and tears!
Even if you make a failure
Even if it makes you cry
It is OK to start over
Don't say any complaint
Cling onto your dream, yeah
Until the day where your wish come true

Cross the river!
You can do it!

RE: Poetry or Lyrics that Inpire you
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
