Shermans were called "Ronsons" because they lit first time, every time. They were also called "Tommy cookers".

There's a story about tanks (don't know which ones, maybe you can tell me if it's true).  The story goes that a general on an inspection tour during WWII asked a tank commander, 'So, the bullets go right through your tanks, is that correct?'

'Not right through, General - they just come in one side and rattle around for a while.'
