R.I.P Opportunity
Mars Opportunity Rover Officially Dead

Quote:One of the great exploration stories of our time is officially over.

NASA declared its dead today (Feb. 13), more than eight months after the solar-powered robot went silent during a raging dust storm on the Red Planet — and a day after the final calls to wake Oppy up went unanswered.

"I declare the Opportunity mission as complete, and with it the Mars Exploration Rover mission complete," Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of NASA's Science Mission Directorate, said today during an event at the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California.

The mission was meant to last 90 days.  It lasted fifteen years.

A bargain at twice the price.

A big well done to all the engineers involved Smile
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!

Its last words were literally: "My battery is low and it's getting dark."

Damn.

Let us all share a moment of silence. Thank you little robot, May your circuits reach the glorious motherboard.
