[Serious] Huzzah for homeschooling!
#11
RE: Huzzah for homeschooling!
It's an easy thing to get wrong. Expensive as shit, too, to do right.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Most of my cousins will never get into a college that doesn't have "Baptist" in the name. But some have the luck to be able to teach themselves. One cousin teaches law today. She was self-schooled by her own description. She's smarter than three of me.

Most of the kids I have known that were homeschooled then went to the special colleges for homeschoolers...apparently to continue to avoid an education.

We had one of those colleges here. Closed down last year and is being converted to low rent housing.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Things are looking up.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

One good thing has come out of their homeschooling. Each of the kids are told to believe absolutely nothing I might say about anything. Waving a red flag in front of a bull for an inquisitive kid. Think

It's certainly more practical to get you kids into a "homeschool college" than to provide all of the shit an normal™ classroom has to command..even if that classroom doesn't use all that stuff.

It's easy to see how legitimately wishing to mis-educate or under-educate your children on just one thing (but otherwise wishing they had a better education, in practice) turns into a broader issue.

I've known a few homeschoolers who got a good education. In those cases the most common means was extra effort by the kids. (With some help from Uncle GoingToHell if they asked.)

My Catholic nephew and his wife are presently home schooling their kids because they don't want them, "...polluted by science." Dodgy

Bingo. And, of course, some homeschoolers don't want their kids exposed to "those people". (Take your pick of what "those people" are.) One cousin doesn't want his kids around "all those drug dealers". He runs a serious moonshining operation, but "that's different".

Research suggests homeschooled children tend to do better on standardized tests, stick around longer in college, and do better once they're enrolled. A 2009 study showed that the proportion of homeschoolers who graduated from college was about 67%, while among public school students it was 59%.Jan 21, 2018
