I find the best response to someone offering to pray for me is, ‘You pray for me and I’ll think for you. Fair enough?’

I kinda want to be a dick about it, though.
I've dealt with this scenario for decades. If someone offers to pray for me, my usual response is, "Go right ahead and pray. Nothing will happen and I will regard this as conclusive evidence that prayer is a waste of time and there's no benevolent god watching over us."
"The world is my country; all of humanity are my brethren; and to do good deeds is my religion." (Thomas Paine)
I've never had anyone in real life say the phrase to me, and it's an easy enough phrase to ignore online.
"Never trust a fox. Looks like a dog, behaves like a cat."
~ Erin Hunter
@slartibartfast You should have offered to pray with him. "Dear lord, please provide us with the money to afford knee replacements for my wife, amen".
Then hold out your hand.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
I get offers to pray for me pretty frequently. I usually just say 'thanks!'. They're usually not aware that I'm an atheist and I generally take it to be the equivalent of 'I hope it works out for you'.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
I'd rather someone offer to dance with me than pray for me.
Just a little cherry on top of this old conversation. If you need prayer for something a lot of people will use that as an excuse to seem genuinely caring. Praying for someone doesn't absolve them from taking action though, and should be the first step in a genuine communication and relationship in someone's life.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
