Not the point.

Sports is competition. THAT is my point.

I see no difference between a close race/game/match and a blowout. Even with a wide gap, the leader and the one whom knows they are going to lose IN ANY SPORT, all play till the clock runs out.

If one wants to bring up safety issues, I get that. But again, I don't care if you are car 32 in last place, or if you are losing to the Patriots in the Super Bowl  5 billion to 3. Any pit crew is going to be like any coach, and tell you to do the best you can till it is over.

No, it's exactly the point, you just missed it.  The point I replied to is that it's bloody silly to compare auto racing to American football.  It's like trying to make an analogy between a game of dart and the FA cup finals.

The lapped cars late in a race, you can consider like a spoiler in NFL playoffs. In week 16 there are teams that will not make the playoffs, like car 32. But they can play by the rules and knock out competition.

Again, if it is within the rules of professional racing for a first place driver to prevent the 2nd place driver behind them from passing, I don't see why it should be against the rules for the driver in last place to prevent someone from lapping them.

If it does not violate safety rules, then position should not matter.

That's the larger point which I didn't address.  But you analogy isn't getting any better, since you're comparing football playoffs with a one-off auto race.

Hello McFly

Hate to burst your bubble, but auto racing isn't a "one off" deal. It is a point based system, just like the NFL has rules to get a team into the playoffs. That is why auto racing is called a "series".

Making sense doesn't matter.  Obviously.  'Cause for Brian football and auto racing should follow the same rules.

***Big Bri - why do you think the NFL teams generally don't play their 'stars' in pre-season games?  Do you know?

It is why in theory, one can lose the Daytona 500 but still end up the NASCAR champion at the end of the SEASON series of MULTIPLE races.

I defy you to QUOTE ME anywhere in this thread where I said, implied or demanded the rules for the NFL should apply to auto racing.

I never claimed they were the same sport.

I am saying as long as safety rules are not violated AS WITH ANY SPORT, it should not matter who is ahead or whom is behind, but all involved will do the best they can until the event is over. The drivers in the back of the pack preventing the leaders from passing, are no different in tactic or strategy than the leader trying to prevent the 2nd place driver from passing the leader.

You defy me.   Hehe

Turn on that caps lock and CRANK UP abba and wind yourself up into a POEM writing frenzy about being saved from a hurricane that was over.  You'll feel a lot better.
