Yeah that's because Republican party went completely off the rails and insane, so the sane choice seems to be the Democrats but they seem to be what moderate Republicans used to be.

Yeah, the two major parties seem to be the extreme right, and the moderate right. With the extreme right still calling them hopelessly liberal, and trying their darndest to pull democrats farther right, and the dems offering little to no resistance. Is it any wonder half the voting population is independent?

Why is the half of the voting population pretending what they've done to now somehow makes the less complicit in the current state of affair, and they have no need to reconsider their outlook and evaluate action by its outcome like adults?
People should vote for who they like. Not for who they dislike less. People who didn't vote for Hillary are not responsible for Trump taking office. If you continue voting for bad candidates, you are complicit in the system being bad. We all need to stop supporting bad candidates because they're "more electable" than the candidates we actually like, since it makes it all that much harder for candidates we actually like to get into office.

The Supreme Court fucking matters. Thanks to those who couldn't vote for Hillary, we've now got Gorsuch and Rapeface McGee on the court for the next 30+ years. But no, I'm sure 'principles' are more important than supreme court decisions that will affect everyone for the rest of their lives.

Yes, principles matter. They should always matter. Including setting up laws that make politicians easier to fire when they fuck things up. But that's not going to get fixed when we keep voting Bad Person A, or Bad Person B.
