Not to be rude, but reading a fiction book for the only purpose of finding its contradictions is a waste of time for some of us.

And if it is my responsabilidad to read the Bible, then they should too have strong scientific bases to debate with me, which I’m sure most don’t.

Not to be rude, but if you think it’s stupid to actually educate yourself on what is contained in said fiction book before you debate someone who believes it’s non-fiction, then why are you here trying to glean info from the people who actually did take to time study its contents?

“I’m not going to read it; that’s stupid. Hey, people who HAVE read it! What does it say?”

I would need to know specific arguments of his in order to respond properly.

Besides, you can always do a quick Google search.

Exactly, give me the summary.

There are atheists like me who oppose institutionalized religion, and then some atheists who also spend their time studying the Bible to understand what makes it wrong.

Regardless, I find it a waste of time.

lol, no. Do your own work like the rest of us did. No one said it was fun, but if you want to effectively debate some written work, you need to familiarize yourself with the material. Anything less is just laziness, frankly. What do you think this; Sparknotes.com?

Then you shouldn’t be debating the Bible. You have no business debating any original source material if you haven’t read the source material yourself. That’s just called being an honest and diligent interlocutor. Why would you think you could win a debate over a book you’ve never read?

And yeah, I know I’m being a bitch. I just can’t find it in me to be sorry about that these days.

Thank you

I don't think it would be worth debating with him.  If he thinks the Bible is inerrant then there's no amount of reasoning that will convince him.

Agreed.  If you're not sure what the Exodus is, you probably shouldn't be challenging Biblical literalists about their beliefs.

Boru

Why not?   Their beliefs impinges upon all sorts of things that are not in the bible,  if you can show bible is no good for anything the bible impinges on other than the bible itself, that's good enough to contain them in the hell they profess to most prefer, unless your goal is paradoxically the salvation of their mortal souls.

A few years ago some guy asked on a C++ forum how to do a qsort alghorithm. I don't feel the need to do one's homework as I rebelled and refuse to do homework in my time.

How many Philistine foreskins did David buy his first wife with?

100

Quote:And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines. 2 Samuel 3:14

200

Quote:Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife. 1 Samuel 18:27

You're welcome.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

I’ve always found that “you know you’re flammable, right?” is a good, universal comeback for all occasions.
