"Laughing At Religion" Meme Thread
RE: "Laughing At Religion" Meme Thread
This is actually a famous painting by Gilbert & George

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Dodgy

I post links to the studies on the effectiveness of prayer (it doesn't work) on Nextdoor (the only social media I am on), and point out the sentiment noted above...OFTEN.

I do it as push-back against all of the "thoughts and prayers" messages sent to people who have lost their cats, and I suggest they actually do something useful, instead.

I'm not a popular person on Nextdoor, but what has happened is that there is now *much more*, and more vocal, push-back against theists there.

Think globally, but act locally.
