teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

True story:
I was visiting Cologne, Germany, and was waiting in line to go into the Cologne Cathedral, with friends...including a fellow atheist.
The sky was cloudy, and threatening rain.
As I gazed up at the main spire...lightning directly struck it.
To this day, my friend and I take credit for it.
BTW, if you ever have an opportunity to visit it, do so.
It's the most impressive building I've ever been in. Especially when one considers it was built in the 13th century.
For lack of a better term, it is glorious.
Disappointing theists since 1968!
