My Neighbor Won’t Leash His Dog

RE: My Neighbor Won’t Leash His Dog
No dog is smarter than a warthog.  But I agree - most dogs are trainable, and a muzzle doesn't seem to inconvenience them greatly.

I go with the clown dogs. They do all kinds of stupid shit in exchange for a doggie treat. Bribery is the paradigm for zookeepers. Wanna get a four meter fifteen hundred pound giraffe in a truck? Mulberry leaves.

Ayup.  One man's bribery is another man's positive reinforcement.

The one consistent thing about animals is, they are very food motivated. If you have what they like, they'll do what it takes to get it. Outside of any trust issues, of course.

We do not domesticate cats. They domesticate us.

He said if they get in a fight it’s my fault because his dog is friendly. I called animal control but the interaction left me terribly upset. Now I’m walking my dog carrying a metal rod. My dog is old and blind and a little mutt like 15 lbs. I’ve had her for over ten years and I got her as a rescue. Cliche or not she’s the most important “person” in my life. I can’t believe I can’t just enjoy walking around the block in peace. Now I’m angry, scared, upset... just everything negative. It’s even frightening to be this angry. If my dog was attacked and hurt or killed I’d probably end up in prison myself and I’m just a tired old man. I swear. People piss me the fuck off. I’m sure some of you don’t understand why you need to leash your dogs and other people really feel where I’m coming from. Unless you’re in a designated no leash zone please please please leash your dog for everyone’s safety including you and your dog.

I have unfortunately assholes on my street who don't leash their dogs. They end up upending my trash bin. I still cannot figure out how to dog proof it. But it is fucking frustrating because it isn't the dog's fault.

Build a 2x4 frame around it.

And if you're not handy, you can purchase ready-to-assemble dog kennel kits for not too much money that should do it.
