That works but 'Ramble On' names Mordor and Gollum.

I want to understand the plot of the original story written by Emily Bronte.

Have you considered the radical notion of actually reading the fucking book?

Surely you jest.

I have read lots of books. I actually UNDERSTOOD The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins and God Is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens. My late best friend Bob was an engineer, far more scientifically smart than I am, but he could not understand NFL football to save his life.

So yea, I could read the book, but what good would that do me? I do not think the the goal of humanity in trying to convey an idea is always to throw the other into the deep end.

I am not asking about Wuthering Heights ot of stupidity or fear, but clarification.

I am no fan of mystery. If you want me to appreciate your story, be blunt about it and let me decide if it is complex enough and worthy enough to put up there.

But if you cant explain your plot, even if obvious to you, I am under no obligation to buy your product.

I ask about Wuthering Heights in the same way I asked about the plot of Oedipus Rex. I simply wanted to understand the plot.

And the best way to understand the plot is to read the book.  It's a pretty straightforward read.  After you read it, come back and tell us what you think it's about, and I'll be happy to correct you, just like I did with 'Macbeth'.

You sound like my mother when she said "look the word up in the dictionary". THAT IS FUCKING BULLSHIT.

Just like a magician, "If you don't know, you are a moron for asking"

I fucking hate that bullshit.

It takes NOTHING away from knowing, or appreciation of what someone has to convey, for them to tell you without making you chase it.

I have never fucking liked assholes who pull that shit with me. Tell me what you mean first, don't fucking make me guess. I can still appreciate what you are trying to convey if you tell me up front. It is the same thing to me in any type of education. I am not a lab rat on a wheel out to chase cheese for the amusement of ringmaster.

It isn't that what you might have is not valuable, but in that you don't need to shroud your point like it is a Rubix Cube to stroke your own ego.

The best teachers don't throw people in the deep end, but as teachers learn to relate what they know to others. THAT is why I am asking about the plot of Wuthering Heights. Not because I can't read but I want to know what I am getting into, just like an airline mechanic doesn't know every plane engine, but if to work on one, has to have training BEFORE. It DOES NOT destroy the mystery for me, for others to explain the plot before I read something. It actually HELPS ME appreciate it more.

*shrug*  If I want to know what a film is about, I don't go round asking other people, I go and watch the film.  It's the same with books.  If you're too goddamned bone idle to read the thing yourself and have to have it spoon-fed to you, at least make the effort to read a summary.

The one person best able to (in your words) 'tell me what you mean first' is Emily Bronte.  And the best way to grasp what she meant is to read her book and think about it.

You can look at my lack of understanding of the plot of Wuthering Heights as being the same as not understanding how the lady is sawed in half. It does not matter that i want to be an illusionist, but it does not hurt that I don't know the trick even if I don't want to become a magician myself. Just like knowing the plot of a book does not mean you want to write one yourself does not mean you can't appreciate someone who does write a book.

I can understand you not knowing the plot of the book, since you haven't read it and seem resistant to doing so.  The best possible cure for this gap in your knowledge would be to read the book.

Holy shit, it is not a matter of resistance. It is a matter of HOW people as INDIVIDUALS PROCESS information.

It literally amounts to knowing HUMANS as individuals LEARN DIFFERENTLY.

Be it math, history, biology, art, literature. It is a bullshit notion that "sink or swim" is always the way to learn.

If you give me the answers FIRST, that is not cheating to me. If you give me the answers you give me UNDERSTANDING. Cheating is only when you are lying or deceiving someone. It is not lying or cheating to let someone know what they are getting into before they get into something.

No, simply giving you the answers is not giving you understanding. If you ask people the plot of a book, you won’t know it, you’ll simply have been told. Not the same thing at all. And I’m not accusing you of cheating.  I’m accusing you of being lazy.

But you be you.

RE: Anyone know about "Wuthering Heights"?
Yup.

Original was by Kate Bush. As much as I love the music of Pat Benatar, Wurhering Heights is one of the few songs from her that I have never listened to.

And, as has been emphasised, the only real way to know the plot of the book is to read it yourself. Others can tell you the basic plot, but all humans interpret things differently.
