The Irishman

RE: The Irishman
Silly? You think? How would you "think" EgoDeath, if Scorceses' next film were about pedophiles, where they're not demonised, but rather humanized, to the tune of an upbeat topical soundtrack?

Lol you know your argument is nonsense when you have to compare The Irishman to a hypothetical film about pedophiles that you've created in your mind to make some point. You made yourself look stupid and I didn't even have to say anything. Thanks.

It is, in fact, yourself who looks stupid on this one, EgoDeath. Allow me to illustrate, with the precursor that you have utterly FAILED to answer the question I posed in my previous post.

So, to add and enhance, "moderate" forms of pedophilia (eg downloading prohibited film and images) actually receive far LIGHTER punishments under the law than even a single murder - let alone multiple murders - just to strengthen my argument still further, as if it weren't already rampaging all aver this thread.

Perhaps you are incapable of hypothetical thought?

It's very telling how fulfilling the words "you win" were for you. You must not hear that much. lol

Just trying to be magnanimous bruv!

Perhaps this film is a kind of "Woke" offering where mass random US gang homicides are committed by WHITE Americans of European ancestry? So many theories...I guess we need to pull in an interview with the writers and director...might all be lies though...maybe try tomoz.

I don’t think it’s a fair criticism to say that Scorsese glorifies or romanticizes the crime figures in his films. The great majority of them seem to come rather sad, pathetic and frequently sticky ends.

Interesting point Boru, to a degree. They are CLEARLY not overtly vilified however, by my mind, nor portrayed as being "weirdos" and are more portrayed as being "normal and cool tough guys with shitloads of cash and beautiful squeezes." Oh yeah, and that fun soundtrack. So they often come to sticky ends, quick, sticky ends or die at ripe old ages in relative comfort. Sounds good to me! (except I'm not a psychopathic multi-murderous arsehole, that is...at least, not yet...after a few more Scorsese films...who knows? ; )

My main issue with claiming any kind of fictional entertainment supposedly glorifies some sort of real life violence is that the entertainment in question is fictional. To say that a fictional work is glorifying real-life violence is about as close to a nothing statement as one can get. What, precisely, is even being said? It's nonsensical.

Then again, many films are based on real events, so, in a weird sort of not that solid way, you can start to draw some parallels to real-life messages...

But even then, as you've pointed out, it's not like the bad guys win, let's say, Goodfellas. Scorsese pointed out how insanely gruesome and futile that way of life was, if anything. Everyone either got killed or put in jail. As for Henry Hill, he was so close to death and jail that his only escape was changing his entire life, running away, going into WITSEC. Not much of a life, by any measure I'd consider acceptable.

So, if after watching a film, your takeaway is how terrible it is that a director would make a film about something you think is despicable, I'd probably wonder how deep that stick up your ass is, and would suggest you to learn how to enjoy yourself. Meditation is actually a great way to start learning how to be mindful. So that's a good place to start.
