Cheered by the thoughts provided as this thread has developed, I just phoned my sister with a "peace pipe on the go." The phone call went very well and I now think the rift has been largely sealed. Thanks to those who've helped us through this - anonymous atheistic rational internet forum at it's finest! Priceless.
