I love how believers are so cocksure that their god cares about them and their loved ones, but the moment you begin to call their beliefs into question, their defense mechanisms go into overdrive. If they were really that sure, why do they get bent out of shape? I took out the names, but here is me getting myself defriended. And sorry for the wall of text or whatever it's called. I don't think that particular thread would have a public link. In truth, I probably should have left it alone (since I "leave alone" a large daily offering of stuff like this from former fellow believerson FB) but water under the bridge now.
I was preparing an answer to the latter person, but learned that I had been defriended when I couldn't comment any further. *Shrugs*

Someone likes this.
Me: Not to sound crass. Your omniscient god already knows the cure. He simply has yet to pass it down to us and apparently withholds it willingly (or in his all-powerfulness, refuses to squash it himself, which he could in one breath since he created the world in the same breath). I have an uncle and grandfather who have died of cancer, so I totally share your sympathies.

Friend: ... are you becoming an apologist for aetheism? Especially as it relates to my friends list??? I'll be honest, it is becoming tiresome. You asked for space from me and I gave it to you but if you are going to continue to come on with this constant sense of nearly brutal apologistic claptrap...our friendship is in the balance. What do you have to gain if you have not spiritual belief? Why must you berate my friends...when the VAST majority of the GLOBE believes in some for of god or GOD. So, back off, please.

Me: ... atheism doesn't need apologists. It's the default view because all other views need all the explaining. I didn't berate anyone and even said I was sympathetic to any cures that might surface for cancer. And I welcome any proposed cures because, heck, if we live long enough, sooner or later, cancer will get us. I don't believe what I said was claptrap. How does God handle cancer in this world? Just another curse of mankind? Or something he can't (or won't) cure? If he is all-loving and all-powerful, he seems (I'm sorry for offending you) to be willingly allowing it to persist or unable to cure it.
I am sorry for offending, and I want to remain your friend, but surely you can see the inconsistency with the idea of an all-loving, all-powerful God. Right now, as I type, he knows the cure! If he is omniscient, he knows the cure for cancer! And this is striking to me.

Another person who jumped in: Interesting conversation guys! Sorry to cut in, but an arguement can be made for atheism being the default position. Atheism actually has apologists (Dawkins, Hitchens...) simply because in our daily experience, complex design has a designer. Without exception. One would never examine an automobile and wonder how it was randomly created. However, athiest look at something billions of times more complex than an automobile and assume no designer. The question of why God chooses to reveal himself in various ways also is a fascinating topic! A few answers (and still more questions) are found in Job. I would encourage you guys to keep up the dialogue. God is not offended by the critical thinker.
