Tiger Woods........

Tiger Woods........
I am sure everyone knows by now that he crashed his SUV and suffered severe leg fractures. I do wish him a full recovery. But just listening to the reports and looking at the video of where his vehicle ended up, it would not surprise me if reports end up saying he was speeding, and maybe even a combo of some sort of distracted driving.

Even outside famous people, on the web, when I see people brag about needless risk taking like speeding on public roads, things like this are a lesson as to why driving should be treated as a responsibility and not treating public roads as private raceways.

It is far less likely that you will have an accident if you are obeying the speed limit and keeping your distance behind others to allow yourself time to correct and avoid an accident.

I used to speed in my teens and 20s, but it took me 1 $250 dollar ticket to stop that. Police really don't like giving out tickets despite what some might think. And they most certainly don't like showing up to accidents where people are injured or die.  It only takes one split second for something like this to unfortunately happen. I've had two accidents in my life that were my fault. Fortunately I was not injured. I have however witnessed two major accidents where people were injured, and that is no fun.  One was a van that blew a stop sign, was speeding, got t-boned and flipped ending upside down. The pair in the van were wearing their seat belts, and climbed out of the van on their own. But when one suffers that sudden shock, you can be so hyped up and not realize you are injured. They did take that pair to the hospital out of an abundance of caution.

Tiger fortunately was wearing his seat belt, and police said it was a high likelihood that if he had not been, he would have died. It was fortunate he was. My late mother was one of those that grew up without seat belts or seat belt mandates. She also hated that the seat belt would dig into her chest. After I moved down here in 05 to take care of her I noticed she would not wear her seat belt. I nagged the hell out of her until she agreed to do so. One day she went out in her van, and flipped it. She was wearing her seat belt, and the same thing, it most likely saved her life.

Safety isn't a matter of trying to point at others and say, "I told you so." It really is just a matter of caring enough to try to get others to avoid harm to themselves and others when driving.  It really sucks for Tiger now because of the recovery time and possibly ending his career too. I hope he can come back.

"severe orthopedic injuries" was the ticker comment on CNN.

That really has to suck for him. I broke my left hand middle finger after flipping my bicycle as a kid. That hurt like f. I've never broken my legs or arms so that really has to be far worse.

Double compound pillon fracture here. Tibia and fibula sticking out on the inseam of my leg.

I got up and tried walking on it.

It didn't work.

Just went in circles to starboard....

Wrist was shattered too. Barely noticed.

Cracked jokes with the EMTs ..

I am wondering however, after hearing about that particular vehicle's accident avoidance technology, such as automatic breaking, and auto steering to avoid objects in front of you, may have contributed to the accident. Vehicles are still a ways away from being completely automatic driving not needing human interaction.

I think accident avoidance technology right now is mostly good for low speed things, like not backing over a kid in a driveway, or not bumping into someone in a parking lot. Not really sure these things help much at higher speeds.

Speed was most likely the cause regardless.

It wouldn’t surprise me if drugs were a contributing factor. Woods has had several back surgeries, and has a DUI for painkillers.

The reports I have been seeing this time police are saying drug impairment was not a factor. But that is admittedly an initial report. I am sure with all accidents like that, with injuries like his, they most likely get a blood test at the hospital. That will settle it when it comes out.

Yeah, not accusing him of anything, just saying it’s a possibility.

But, like you said, everything is preliminary right now.

No skid marks or signs of attempting to brake and apparent excessive speed, hmm.............
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.
