My mom was born the day after Mother's Day, so we usually have an annual party for her on one of those days. This year was special, however, because she was celebrating her 100th birthday. My brother rented a pavilion and hired a caterer so we could give her a big Mother's Day party. Box lunches were available for everyone. About 25 relatives and friends attended, presenting her with many birthday gifts. My brother, sister and I held a private party for her the following day. We ate the rest of the box lunches and enjoyed cake and ice cream for dessert. Mom said it was the best weekend she's had since Dad died.
Mom is in great shape for her age and her mind is still sharp as a tack. She plays a wicked game of Mahjong. When I consider my declining physical condition, I have a sneaking suspicion that she might outlive me.
