What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?

I guess, if a woman is is attracted to monosyllabic  Neanderthals. Imo the history of his treatment of women is disgusting. Dodgy

He's fathered 8 children among several women, but has been married only twice.

Seems his eclectic and vigorous love life began at age 14 with the girl next door.

It's always struck me as unjust that here in Oz, a woman who behaves like Eastwood  is referred to as a moll or a skanky moll and considered louche at the very least.. A bloke is called a root rat, and is envied and admired.(by other men)

My younger brother spent so much of his youth sowing his wild oats that he was was seldom seen horizontal. Then he got married and has remained faithful to his wife for over 30 years, so that might make up for his youthful behaviour to a point.

Perhaps this is due to jealously, but I don't think so. I have never been promiscuous and  have always seen such behaviour as adolescent.

You ever watch Goodfellas and think that maybe Tommy's the way he was because he was insecure about his height and is trying to overcompensate for that?

Nope. His real-life model Tommy DeSimone was over a foot taller than Joe Pesci, and before you say that maybe Martin Scorsese changed some things about him for the movie, he really didn't. According to The Vile Eye video I just watched, his surname and his appearance seem to have been the only things changed in the adaptation (and the latter is probably just because Marty cast Joe Pesci.) And, bear in mind, The Vile Eye tends to be very good with comparing and contrasting between different versions of the same character.

I learned that 71% of the 60k acres of hops planted in the us are in washington, just about all of it in yakima valley. That most of the cultivars grown are unique and can't be grown anywhere else. That, above 95f, they're damaged..and, additionally, that hops absorbs chemicals in smoke and those chemicals do make their way into beer.

Before 2000 the growers were faceless cogs in a multinational procurement chain but..now, they're the engine for craft beer...and their hops are negotiated for in person up to two years in advance...which is to say that it's sold before it's even planted. The heat and wildfires that are becoming more frequent don't have the potential just to devastate this industry (which they did).but completely wipe it off the face of the earth..and ofc not just them.. every craft brewery that depends on it.

Next year, alot of micro brews will likely have a smoky flavor, which I'm sure they'll market to rather than call it "smoke taint" - as that's pretty much all they can do. If the trend continues, it will never not have that note...so here's to hoping it works out for them. Hops Growers of America (yakima based industry organization) just began a life cycle study and a carbon sequestration study on hops production they hope to have finished next year this time.

Meanwhile, in new mexico, growers are facing the possibility of no longer being able to cultivate hatch chiles. The suitability profile is already past tipping, and labor shortages (and the pandemic) may have done the industry in for good.

Regarding the above - I have family in the Yakima valley and the situation is indeed grim. Vineyards all over are suffering similar fates.

Well, I found out that my men's group is having a Xmas lunch on 8 December. The venue is in a new development area. I have to work out the actual location.

There is some caffeine in decaf coffee.

Thank the stars! Someone in this house accidentally bought K-cups without looking closely at the label and they're the only coffee left in here until pay day.

Well, I didn't know that. That's my first new thing for the day.

Worked out about 40 years ago that life's too short to drink instant coffee or poor wine.

I've always  been worried about what is done to poor innocent coffee beans to turn them into instant coffee. The mind boggles at what they do to make remove the caffeine from already nasty muck.   Here 'reasonable'  instant coffee costs about $80kg.  My fresh coffee is usually around $20 a kg. (yes I'm aware fresh weighs more by mass than instant)

I must admit I'm a bit OCD about my coffee; I have burr grinder, and make most of my coffee with a beautiful, retro, red, SMEG dripolator. Also have a manual espresso maker and a French press. I drink about 10 demitasse a day.

There are actually three screen adaptations of Stephen King’s It. Besides the 1991 miniseries and the recent pair of theatrical films, there’s also a TV series from India called Woh. It’s in Hindi, has 52 25-minute parts, shortens the cycle from 27 years to 15, and changes all the names but apparently retains the name Pennywise.
