What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?

Yaphet Kotto was offered to play Jean Luc Picard in TNG but he turned it down.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Don't think that one stands up to scrutiny, the earliest source was likely intended as humor.

"Believe it or not, I was not Gene Roddenberry’s first choice to play Spock. So, who was the first choice, the actor who turned down the role? George “Goober” Lindsey. True." -Leonard Nimoy

In the same TVLand series of 'bumpers', Nimoy claims 'Live long and prosper' was originally supposed to be 'Take it easy'. In another, Nimoy uses a tricorder to scan for cheese.

Too bad, it's a great story.

Ernest Borgnine, a close friend of Lindsey’s, verified the story in his autobiography. Lindsey himself said he turned down the part of Spock because he’d just become a cast regular on The Andy Griffith Show and didn’t like the idea of leaving a bona fide hit for an untried production.

That shouting at little children is so therapeutic for the nerves. I mean, I am not saying I am going to be going to parks and yelling "You little shit!", but now I understand why grownups would yell at us children for no reason when we played outside.

We were usually yelled at to go play outside. Mom hated sharing the house with anyone who might interrupt her reading and/or drinking.

No matter how cringey the worst of left-wing activists can get, you can at least take solace in the fact that even they are at least housebroken.

Also, for obvious reasons (I'm a dude and my GF is a body pillow), I did not know that tampons are going for $2 a pop.

Know what you mean. I still haven’t decided what to wear to the living room on New Year’s Eve. I might not even go.

Television is actually enjoyable when you have a decent-quality TV. I've been judging things by my 15-year-old 1080p Emerson cheapie. My new TCL is a whole different ballgame.

We are having a company dinner next weekend and I am adding up the pros and cons of attending...

Pros - I really do like my boss and she treats me well

Cons - It's way over by the Tollway...I never venture that far anymore
I don't speak the language of most of the people who will be in attendance and haven't even met most of them
I am picking up our new puppy that weekend
          I don't wanna go
Did I mention we are getting a new puppy that weekend?

sigh

Yes, but is it possible that you might be getting a new puppy that weekend?
