What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
RE: What Do You Know Today That You Didn't Know Yesterday?
Honestly.....I don't know. It's been horrible. Wink
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. Ill add another fish themed revelation from data we've just finished pouring over.

It's not feasible to raise farmed fish on live feed, because of the sheer amount of amonia that small fish put off, relative to the same species of fish at a larger size, and the inability to match some other cultivar that can make use of the nitrogen bloom, in the absence of other nutrients not provided by effluent in quantities sufficient to the concentration of N, after cycle processes.

Its only after the 6th week of growout (from fry) that the nutrient requirements of a suitable cultivar are met without additions, leading to reduced production...and the filtration requirements of the fish are met, leading to reduced production. In a vacuum, each rep is better grown in a monoculture, and there is an inescapable and significant amount of loss inherent to this integrated methodology.

I'm going to be pitching a study on the viability of eliminating cycle time by forced season extension over the next few months. If I can get a granting body to agree...I'll be able to post a link to an actual peer reviewed study that directly credits yours truly, come this time next year.

Fingers crossed.

The phrase 'what the dickens' has bugger all to do with Charles Dickens.  It basically means 'what the devil' and it's first recorded use was in Shakespeare's 'The Merry Wives of Windsor'.

In the past 24 hours, I found out that the movie Jaws has been a crucial point in at least two criminal cases: (definitely in one case, a possible lead in another.)

Last night, while listening to the Hadden Clark series on Last Podcast on the Left, Marcus briefly talked about the Lady of the Dunes case, and how, after 45 years, nobody knows who she is. While Hadden Clark claims to have killed her and knew her name and refuses to divulge it out of spite, his confession remains dubious. The closest thing to a lead anyone’s been able to get is that, after watching a documentary about the case, and Jaws several weeks later, he saw a woman who looks a lot like a recent reconstruction of the Lady, wearing clothes like those found on her body, in the “4th of July Crowd” scene, which was filmed in the general area her body was found, around the same time. And I Would Like To Think This Was Only A Matter Of Chance.

In a more concrete way, in 1996, a young Florida boy named Hunter Scott watched Jaws with his Dad and was captivated by this scene:

This led to a National History Day project about the sinking, and that project led to him interviewing 150 survivors and coming to the conclusion that Captain Charles McVay III, the only captain in the history of the US Navy to be court-martialed for losing his own ship, was innocent of the charges brought against him. This culminated in him going before Congress in 2000 to argue that McVay, whose life was ruined by the court-Martial and killed him self in 1968, deserved to be exonerated. He got his wish in October 2000.

Today I found out that, remember Amy’s Baking Company, that restaurant that became infamous for being the one restaurant that Gordon Ramsay couldn’t even try to fix? It turns out it’s on Youtube FULLY UNCENSORED.

It’s strange seeing them actually using fully-audible versions of Carlin’s Seven, but, evidently, the mouth blur was impossible to fix.

Today, I found out that, contrary to popular belief, the vocoder wasn’t invented by Wendy Carlos for A Clockwork Orange, but actually has a history longer than that. Hell, ACO wasn’t even the first Best Picture nominee to use it. There are a few instances of its use in A Letter to Three Wives. While I haven’t found clips of the relevant scenes on Youtube, here’s a page about it with audio of the scenes in question.

The first use of the vocoder (then known as the Sonovox) in film? Right here:

There’s also a 1939 newsreel of Lucille Ball, of all people, demonstrating the Sonovox, and it’s a positively surreal experience to hear the sound of Hell itself coming out of the mouth of Lucy Ricardo.

Today, I learned that A) you are expected to take your glasses off now when taking your picture at the DMV, even if you need them to see longer than an arm’s length away from your face, and B) apparently, your birth certificate is not sufficient to prove you were born in America and thus eligible for a Real-ID anymore.

Interesting. I had to go to the DMV to renew my license a few months ago, to get the real id. In my picture, I'm wearing my specs. I'm in California, though.
