teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
'The Hobbit' was first published in 1937 (and was a smashing success), but there was no German translation of the book until 1971. It seems that Tolkien was furious with Nazi authorities for demanding that he provide a detailed genealogy of himself to prove he had no 'Jewish blood'. The incident was so upsetting to him that he refused all offers of a German edition until near the end of his life.

That my cat is terrified of dogs. A friend brought her tiny Yorkshire over and I was holding my cat when she came by. He scratched my arms and leapt down ...charging for our spare bedroom’s bed. He stayed under there forever. Even after she was gone. Don’t worry buddy, we won’t get a dog. :/

This is called a Srbosjek; it was apparently adapted from a wheat sheaf knife by Ustachists in Croatia to kill Serbs in concentration camps. Allegedly, there were even contests (specifically at Jasenovac) for how many Serbs could be killed by one Croat in a single day. The record was held by guard Petar Brzica, who claimed to have killed 1,360 in a single day. And, yes, that knife was fixed to that metal plate specifically so the person using it wouldn't be injured. I'm sure at some point, I'm going to find a way to incorporate that elegant monstrosity into a story.

I was born with the gift of laughter and a sense the world is mad.
In Ancient Greece, small penises were celebrated and seen as a sign of high intelligence. Men with large penises were seen as grotesque, laughable, and barbaric.
