What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
RE: What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
There is a difference between honing and sharpening a knife blade. Honing adjusts the blade edge's alignment, whereas sharpening actually grinds off some of the blade edge. Ceramic rods sharpen, steel rods hone.

Jerry Lewis was some nasty POS

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I just worked on my four most used kitchen knives yesterday with a wet stone, this was quite timely.

Turns out Dustin Hoffman somehow managed to play an autistic character two decades before his famous performance of Rain Man (and one that’s probably more accurate for the higher-functioning types):

His bewilderment at Mrs. Robinson’s fear of being alone just sells it. Well, that and his overwhelmed reaction to his homecoming party, which isn’t in this clip.

And between this, Taxi Driver, and Paris, Texas, Mary and Max’ place in the Best Films About Autism list is seriously slipping.

Also confirmed, we do get to see titty in the scene where Mrs. Robinson corners him in a room while naked. I don’t know if they’re all that appealing-looking (they’re oddly-shaped, with large areolas, and one hell of a tan line) or if they even belonged to Anne Bancroft, but they’re there (16:37 of the Criterion Blu-Ray edition.)

Steel, if drawn into a wire, becomes stronger, while aluminum, if drawn into a wire, become substantially weaker. This is why no one uses a aluminum cable to carry a load.

On the set of the 1991 film ‘Out For Justice’, Steven Segal boasted to anyone who would listen that he has a special move that enabled him to break any choke hold, so he could not be choked out. Martial artist and stunt co-ordinator Gene LeBell offered Segal the chance to prove it. He placed Segal in the chokehold, Segal said, ‘Go!’, promptly lost consciousness AND soiled himself. While Segal vehemently denies the incident ever took place, several people (including his own bodyguard) have confirmed it.

It’s stories like this that make life worth living.
