He walked up to the cockpit door and started knocking on it. All of a sudden, another flight attendant grabbed him and scolded, “You can’t go in there! Nobody goes in the cockpit!” She had to escort him back to his seat. Gene was rolling up and down the aisle with laughter.

My favourite Siskel and Ebert story is how Gene Siskel was bitching about the lousy birthday gift he got from Ebert - an old, dinged up bulb horn.
It was actually the horn used by Harpo in four Marx Brothers films.

The "500-watt" power supply that came with a case that I bought 14 years ago would be rated a 265-watt power supply by modern conventions. I just this morning ordered its replacement for $15 after rebate.

Prince Charles will be, at 73, the oldest new British monarch ever, 9 years older than the previous oldest. And because his full name is Charles Philip Arthur George, it’s up to him whether he’s called King Charles or King Philip or King George or King Arthur.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I heard King Charles III on the radio, but King Arthur would be a bold move

King Oggie Ben Doggie. Is it too much to hope that Cheap Trick will redo their hit "Big Eyes" as "Big Ears" for the king?

Well, look on the bright side; the fact that he's older than any other monarch to ascend to the throne means Prince William is likely to come into power sooner rather than later.
Also, something that I discovered while writing my review of The Queen for Anglotopia (one I was saving for this specific occasion):
The Queen has visited my neck of the woods exactly once. And it was 30 years before I was born.

Why does the monarchy persist if it's merely symbolic at this point?

Because britain didn’t produce a Walt Disney, so her tourist industry had to make do with the Windsors as substitutes for Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
