In the Middle Ages, they tried animals as well as humans for breaking the law. In ecclesiastic courts, the animals were even provided lawyers and one pig got off thanks to testimony about its virtuous behavior.

Aside from the boss being able to say his "R"s properly, Chinese phonology doesn't work that way. If anything (at least if they were originally Cantonese speakers), it'd be the other way around. Maybe if they originally spoke some other dialect, but those are rare among Chinese-Americans, especially in the 1940s.

Adding cold cream to coffee (or cold milk to tea) keeps the beverage warmer longer, partly because the slightly cooler drink now loses heat less quickly and partly because the denser drink evaporates more slowly.
