What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
RE: What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
On April Fools Day, 1971, Texas legislator Tom Moore pranked his fellow lawmakers by introducing a motion to honour one Albert DeSalvo - The Boston Stranger.

Quote:This compassionate gentleman's dedication and devotion to his work has enabled the weak and the lonely throughout the nation to achieve and maintain a new degree of concern for their future. He has been officially recognized by the state of Massachusetts for his noted activities and unconventional techniques involving population control and applied psychology.

The resolution passed unanimously.

According to the Dictionaries of the Scots Language, to hurkle-durkle is “to lie in bed or lounge about when one should be up and about.”

Today I learned that
Corporation A can send $5M to a SuperPac focused on, say, reducing regulation of copper mines in Montana. SuperPac sends that to "Citizens for Mineral Rights LLC" another PAC that does issue messaging to benefit Candidate X. Candidate X wins the election and then pushes policy in favor of Corporation A. If Candidate X fails to live up to the expectations of Corporation A, the cycle repeats.

This is American politics.

I hate to shock you, but there’s nothing uniquely American about that process. Sure the terms are different, but pay-for-play politics is pretty common.

The custom of carrying the bride over the threshold dates back to a Roman tradition, which in turn arose from the rape of Sabine Women, a episold in the legendary history of Roman in which the male founders of city of Rome violently kidnapped the women of nearby cities and carried them home to the new city to found the later population of Rome.

Somebody’s really gone to the effort to figure out exactly what strings the Beatles used on their guitars (at least in 1962-1966)

And here’s a visual representation of what they were (note: these were later sets from when players figured out that string gauge might be important, and the Rics in particular should probably be taken with a grain of salt, since, despite going as far as buying an ancient pack of Rickenbacker flat wounds for $140, he neglected to provide gauges. Blue and Red text added by me.)

It turns out that, as notorious as North Korea is for being as close to 1984 as is possible, well, South Korea is essentially late-stage capitalist Hell.

(The section that specifically points out how horrible South Korea is starts about halfway into the second video, but the rest is vital for context.

Seriously, all the major problems with a country like, say, America seem to be cranked up to Eleven in Korea, except, of course, for Gun violence and maybe racism (which, given how monocultural South Korea is, is probably more Xenophobic than anything else).

And the level of influence that misogynistic gaming trolls have over the industry there is legitimately terrifying. Especially if you manage to animate something and, for a single frame, a character's hands look like this (and I got this image specificially by seatching "resting position of hand"):

Because a couple years ago, a bunch of radfems made a very similar hand gesture into a symbol of their movement, and the fact that said movement imploded over whether or not homophobia is okay several years ago means nothing.

One of the stranglers in Boston, you mean. The moniker ‘The Boston Strangler’ only applies to DeSalvo.

But I take your meaning. One of my pet peeves is Jack the Ripper.
