Microphone preamps are the biggest scam in music (or at least the gear side).





Case in point: Chandler Limited makes a copy of the mic preamp used by Abbey Road on most of the Beatles record and sells it for $2765. You can basically do everything it does with just a Focusrite Scarlett interface ($120) and a High Pass Filter plugin.

Admittedly, some are a bit more complicated, but any difference in sound between preamps just boils down to EQ. And the Redd’s EQ is just a variable high-pass filter.

The world’s smallest escalator is in Kawasaki, Japan, and it’s absolutely pointless.





And before you conclude “obviously it’s for those with mobility issues,” you still have to go up another flight of stairs just to get on it.

Tramontina carbon-steel pans are only 2.25 mm thick, whereas my Merten & Storck pan is 3 mm thick. That explains the weird behavior of the Tramontina.
