Carl Sagan's predictions
September 22, 2021 at 9:59 am
This is a fascinating clip from The Tonight Show with guest Carl Sagan. Sagan makes some startling predictions in his book of a future that he will never see. This was in 1995. The relevant section starts around the 2:30 mark if you want to skip the intro nonsense. So just how close do you think Sagan was?

I listened. As much as I admire Sagan, this doesn’t seem so much a prediction of today as it does a description of 1995. Putting ‘I have a foreboding…’ instead of ‘I see around me…’ in front if your remarks isn’t enough to qualify it as prognostication.

It certainly surprised me. My level of optimism was much higher in 1995. The economy was doing well. Politics were bad but nothing like they are today. No 20 wars going on. In most respects the world looked much brighter to me then but I wasn't looking for bad tidings. I was probably a lot more naïve then as well. I could not have imagined a time when people would reject a live saving vaccine because they just hate liberals so much.
