And lottery winners are notorious for not being able to manage their winnings, and a lot of them end up worse off than before the big win.

Well that's not really true.......if I want to learn something new, all I have to do is read a book, or search for something online. A lot of people have to actually work to earn money.

It's not just a matter of reading a book.  You have to be able to understand what you're reading, put it in context, and apply it.  It also takes more time than, say, putting in an eight-hour shift at the office.

And you say "work" like it's a bad thing...

So you don't even understand the exercise.  The point is to show that your first impression suggests there's a dog with eight legs, but that's not accurate.  Further analysis (in this case just looking at it more closely) reveals that it's actually just two similarly colored dogs walking closely.  But your first assumption would be inaccurate, wouldn't it?  There is not 8 legged dog in the picture.  Or is this whole conversation just wasted on you like virtually every conversation?
If the "8 legged dog" impression was not accurate, you wouldn't have even seen an 8 legged dog. If only the "two dogs" impression was accurate, your mind would've jumped directly to that conclusion.

Oddly enough, when - I - glanced at the picture for maybe 1/4 to 1/2 a second, my brain registered "Sleipnir?" Hehe

OK, smartass.  How many planks in this picture?

Once I looked that up I thought it was pretty cool.  Must remember that one for trivia.

And what do you mean by "if"?  It was always two dogs despite its confusing appearance.
Why is it so?
