Sorry I picked yes by accident... I meant no. I don't see any reason why we need to manipulate the Earth at all. Humans need to stop their thinking that they are some kind of god.

The only way to actually prove it safe is to do it and see if you are still around to debate whether it was safe. The question is given what we know, would the alternative be likely to be, including opportunity cost, more harmful, costly or dangerous in the long run.

We could probably test it out in a controlled highly precise replica of the Earth that's exactly to scale.

Or just wait until we've got no other options... That way it doesn't matter if it might not work or might do harm, we're going to die anyway.
