This thought struck me the other night....the selfish gene and whatnot innit. Thoughts, if any?

I'm wondering what the connection between lust and life worthiness is.

I was 20 beers deep when I posted this in the A.M and feeling somewhat IIRC apocalyptic, for want of a better term. I'll try and justify the thing nevertheless though in the name of entertainment, more than anything else. Interesting, basically.

"Lust" is, by my mind, synonymous with feelings/properties such as purpose, drive, desire, pleasure, love and even meaning in that it is essentially bound to reproduction and that is thought by many to be THE biological prerogative.

Given those associated feelings/properties, how can one deem life to be not worth living, as long as one's lust is in tact? I mean, how many joys and matters of substance could one wish for, above and beyond those humane goliaths supplied by lust?

In closing then: "All you need is lust, bababadada"
"All you need is lust , bababadada"
"All you need is lust, lust. Lust is all you need"

I would even venture that lust is a biological imperative in comparison to the irrationality of love.

But is that an accurate number in relation to your inebriation? Not judging, just wondering.

Regrettably enough, yes. 4 500ml cans of Heineken and 13 330ml bottles of Peroni. It's trying, kissing goodbye to the sauce.

Lust, and the idea of reproduction, are so divorced from each other in my mind, that I have had, and continue to have, some rather strange fantasies.

Where morality comes in, isn't that we have emotions, and there has to be some amount of "selfishness" in evolution, otherwise life in general would not strive to survive or procreate, but empathy for most, and the fact we are social, keeps most people from letting their "lust" harm others. When someone lacks empathy for others, that is when things can get out of control. Lust for power is a prime example of how those in power can get to the point where they don't care whom they hurt to get what they want. Bernie Madoff would be one example. I've worked low wage jobs all my life, and hated the fear of struggling and was almost homeless a couple of times. So yea, I'd often dream of having money. But I would have never dreamed of fleecing others to get it or taking someone's last dime.

Tentacle porn?

Nature wants us to reproduce whether we want to or not.  So, yes, there is a disconnect.  But, having sex for the purpose of making a baby is actually pretty amazing.

Yes, so amazing that it's happened billions of times.

Not only that, but for every baby that is born, there are trillions and trillions of eggs and sperm in our species history that don't end up in a birth.

I do find life amazing too. But I warn anyone not to be romantic about it. I also find volcanos and earthquakes, and even the potency of cobra venom amazing too. I find space amazing, but I wouldn't go on a space walk and take my helmet off.

I am with you Ahriman. It is one thing for someone who has a baby to be happy, but I get annoyed some parents always want to act like everyone should do it. Like the argument over pineapple on pizza, or mushrooms or anchovies. Good for you(not you) but the over zealous parents who acted like they won an Nobel Prize for fucking.

I've seen videos of human birth, and it is messy. It isn't that evolution isn't amazing, it is, but our species is far too narcissistic. Life is amazing, but I do hate that our species stupidly thinks we are above nature, when the reality is that we are only one species in nature.

Life is amazing, but fucking is not why life is amazing. It most certainly can be enjoyable, but it is not the only aspect of life.

So when someone has a baby, fine, show me your pictures, I will humor you and be happy for you, but don't act like you cured cancer.
