[Serious] Woman raped while onlookers did nothing

We have transit police here that ride the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) trains and patrol the waiting areas.  I don't know if they also patrol buses and bus stops though.

And every 5th Texan is carrying iron.....

I kinda doubt this sort of thing would happen there....

If it did - lit would be a Polish firing squad....

Back on topic, some of these people recorded the crime on their phones.

....didn't call police but decided, "This will be great for my Instagram story"? I can't even imagine being that depraved or what these people were thinking. Fear I can understand, but I cannot even comprehend the urge to record a crime on my phone.

In defence of the people filming. This is intervening. They are documenting the crime, and I am sure this will be important evidence if it goes to court.

Some people will make up excuses for anything.

As an excuse, it doesn't even make sense. How could the prosecution use such footage. They don't have it to use. It exists only on some scumbags phone. Said scumbag is unlikely to come forward and identify themselves as one of the scumbags who did nothing to help.

If I were to guess, I would suspect that those people had more interest in new material for their social media channel. Now they are stuck. They cannot use such material as they may have gathered in any way without identifying themselves as one of the bastards that did nothing. Sure, they could find some anonymous outlet to publish it, but that does not generate hits for their channel and is traceable to source anyway.

They cannot post it on their channel as that would expose them to public opprobrium in no uncertain way.

They cannot hand it over to the cops because it might expose themselves to legal sanction and will also become public knowledge if used in evidence.

So what can they do with such footage? Leer over it? Get their jollies over it? That would be sick.
