Boru Yeah, I'm not a fan of gore either. Yuck!

The thing about gore is, it can be used well. It's visceral. It can bring you into a scene and make you feel unease.
Also, it tends to be non-CGI, old school special effects stuff. I appreciate old school special effects, especially in creature features. I'm not a purist or anything. CGI has its place. But I also appreciate it when a puppet is so well-crafted that it freaks me out.

I hold the opinion CGI should only be used if practical effects are too expensive or could never do the job, and yes gore can be visceral but so can playing on peoples primal fear of things like the dark or the unknown, and frankly, I think those are both more effective and appeal to a wider audience.

"Blair Witch" was not a "project", it was a couple of college grads whom were high.
Absolutely NOTHING happened in that movie. It had it's moments, don't get me wrong but it wasn't worth watching the entire film for those scant few relevant horror moments. I don't get the draw.
That movie was more boring than the drugs that killed Michael Jackson.

Slashers are too close to being possible for me, I didn't like Jason until he was a zombie. I also like subtle horror where the implications are freaky...like in Blair Witch where they were following the river and still wound up going in a circle.
Ugh... I very much disliked Blair Witch. I'm rather unfond of all "found footage" style films. But some people really like them.
If you like creature features, Mister, you wanna see Lights Out. It's a good one.
'Blair Witch' made me queasy...not the plot (and I use that word loosely) but the awful filming.
I like psychological thrillers...no gore is best. 'Silence of the Lambs' is a good example of the type of scary movie I like.
I used to read scary books, like The Exorcist, but have read little in that genre in a long time.

It’s not so much the *yuck* factor as it is the laziness of the filmmakers. A film like ‘Psycho’ requires a helluva lot more cinematic artistry than ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’.

I'm definitely not a fan of the pure horror genre. Real life can suck enough so I tend to prefer optimistic fiction such as Star Trek.
Saw The Exorcist in 1974. Gave me nightmares. Read a lot of Stephen King in the late 70's early 80's. Enjoyed most. Quite liked the first TV of series The Stand. The Mist gave me some distress. Have not yet managed to watch any version of "It". Tried, stopped watching when that child got his arm ripped off.
I really liked "Interview With a Vampire". I think it's Tom Cruise's best film next to collateral. Hated the TV Vampire series.
Ever read Bag of Bones by King? One of my all time favorites.

Boru
In movie/tv history, there is a lot to be said for absence and implication.
In the original "Psycho", to this day I could swear, in the shower scene, I saw the knife physically go into her flesh. But that was merely my own mind retrofitting after the fact. But regardless, horror films well done or not, after time, lose their luster, be they a films or be films.

Yeah, I hate when movies do shaky cam it doesn't make the movie scarier it just makes it seem the director was too lazy to set up a proper shot, Silence of the Lambs is one i can only watch once in a while because it seriously creeps me out, Anthony Hopkins was freaking brilliant in that film.

Boru I kind of dislike it both for the yuck and for the laziness but also for the fact it's gotten so over the top over the years it kills my suspension of disbelief.

As far as suspension of disbelief, that is valuable for entertainment purposes only. But it is deadly when one is trying to ascertain the nature of reality.
