Thanksgiving Eats

Thanksgiving Eats
Whatcha cooking, or not cooking but eating.

We're missing the usual tribe that we've had in years past, just me and my wife. I doubt I'll cook for the dogs.

So far I've got turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole (wife insists), mashed potato's, apple pie. I'm open to changes/suggestions if anyone's got something interesting. I's contemplating subbing out the potato's for baked ziti.

Going pretty traditional and glad to have passed most of this to older daughter about three years ago.

Turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, baked mac n cheese, that nasty green bean casserole, rolls, cranberry sauce definitely. But also probably one other vegetable dish...maybe candied yams and probably creamed corn. And multiple pies - pumpkin, apple, maybe a chocolate cream.

There will be too much food...as usual. Daughter is still learning to master the gravy but making the mashed potatoes and mac n cheese is my job.

My son says he only shows up for Thanksgiving for the side dishes.

Will be at least eight of us there with the possibility of a couple of spare teens who have worthless parents and would go without if they didn't join us. Kind of the way things were in my house when mine were that age.

Same, but for different reasons.

My sister and brother-in-law do the cooking. I came across a recipe for cheesy green bean casserole that I'd like to bring, but I don't know if I'll have time to test it first.

I was thinking about adding some fried bacon into mine. Maybe I should just add it to everything?

Nor here, even though we have a great deal for which to be thankful imo.

My mum was born in Vancouver. It was she who insisted we have turkey for Xmas. Also cranberries which came from Canada, in a jar. They weren't available here at that time.  Mum was the only one who liked them.  I slowly acquired a taste.

Dad bought our first turkey home alive and presented it to mum. He was told to kill and dress it. Forgot to tie its legs. Bloody thing ran around the yard with no head. I was fascinated.

To this day, I still prefer chicken, but have turkey on Xmas day because my sis likes it.

One of the few American style things I make is sweet potato/butternut squash pie.  I kind of invented it as I went along.  Turned out OK. It's really pretty hard to fuck up.

The wife insisted that we get a turkey and some sides for t-day. We went to a store today and procured a turkey and some other stuff. I'm gonna get dragooned into going to another store for another (unnecessary) turkey  Huh and some sort of other "trimmings". Facepalm

I've often wondered, is the Social occasion of Thanksgiving as stressful as Xmas day can be here?

When I was growing up it wasn't Xmas day if  mum wasn't in tears before the end of lunch. (have I mentioned that my father could be a real cunt?)

RE: Thanksgiving Eats
Speaking of the past and growing up, both Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays were major family events. Celebration and food. Maybe it's because I haven't created for myself a traditional family, but holidays simply stopped being important to me when I left home. And I'm not the type of person in need of friends with whom to celebrate.
