I've often wondered, is the Social occasion of Thanksgiving as stressful as Xmas day can be here?

When I was growing up it wasn't Xmas day if  mum wasn't in tears before the end of lunch. (have I mentioned that my father could be a real cunt?)

Holidays were great when my paternal grandparents were still alive. We all gathered there and I honestly can't even tell you what we ate. I had a great time with my oldest cousin romping around the farm. The adults played cards, watched sports, and drank.

After they were gone my mother managed to make it so that we weren't included in family gatherings and we instead stayed home while she got drunk and dad got angry. For about three years in a row mom got drunk enough to fall down the basement steps on Christmas Eve. Fun times.

After I had kids I started making family traditions for us. Now my daughter is carrying that torch and we have a good time just being together. I chip in on making food at Thanksgiving and we really don't do a big meal at Christmas because my kids that are here in town have in-laws to go see. We gather to exchange gifts and spend some time together. We have worked over the last few years to remove as much stress as we can so we can just enjoy being together.

Christmas, New Years and blow up shit day were bigger events in our family.

Bought the ingredients to try the cheesy green bean casserole. But I also used up all my food stamps. Thankfully my bank offers a ready cash deal, so I borrowed $250 (my limit). That will relieve some stress.

Turkey is overrated and insufficient for a holiday meal.  There, I said it.

I’m waiting for next month, when I give the wife her Christmas goose.

Some of us don't get choices. Maybe I'll pick up some McRibs and stash them away.

This is why my son says he just shows up for the side dishes.
