Hopefully I get to catch it this time haha. If not, please screen shot if you get the chance! I need this in my life lol
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I can't stop eating apple pie.

RE: Happy Thanksgiving!!
I got mixed up. I thought Thanksgiving was on Friday, which is sensible. With American employers being so tough, why not have it on Friday and have a long week end? I'm thinking of all of those poor hung over bastards having to go to work on the Friday.

Context of sympathy: New Zealand is known as The Land of the long white cloud. Australia is known as the land of the long weekend.

Having Friday off after Thanksgiving is becoming more and more common in businesses other than retail. Even the doctors I tried to make appts. with are closed tomorrow.

I work from home doing the bookkeeping for a maid service. The office is closed tomorrow but a couple of the teams are going out to appointments as they would on any other Friday.

Back when I used to work, I started taking the entire week off. Made for a nice 9-day vacation! Especially since people get really stupid, and traffic especially so, leading into Black Friday. Add in that I drove past LAX for work, and given all the travel that week, it was a pretty bad commute.

A thanksgiving dinner that can’t be beat

I haven’t gotten to the “didn’t get up until the next morning” part yet. And, given how fucked my sleep patterns have been since the pandemic started, that might end up being closer to afternoon. Also, at one point, Dad found this green uterus-looking plastic thing with the turkey as it was roasting. We have no idea what it is. I can only assume it didn’t look like a uterus when it was originally at room temperature.

Good to know.

An entire country shutting down for public holidays is a thing which is slowly changing in my country, for the worse imo

Here we have had the casualisation of industry, especially retail and service industries.  People in many of those industries are employed as full time casuals. Far too many are employed on a zero hour contract. IE the person is always on call, but is not guaranteed  any hours.

Plus, we have the shift to multi culturalism. My state has over 200 ethnicities***  That means an increasing number of workers are not christians and celebrate different religious holidays. EG Deewali for Hindus, Eid al-fitr (end of Ramadan) for Muslims. There have been moves here for years to abolish penalty rates. Sundays and public holidays will no longer attract higher rates of pay.  Don't know how that will effect practices such as 12 hour shifts.

***Nothing compared with New York, which is claimed to have 600 languages spoken there, making it the most  ethnically diverse city on earth.
