As for the OP, I never have reported anyone to the cops. And with the possible exception of some abusive teachers in my grade school and a customer at the candy store where I used to work who really sketched me out, I don’t think I ever met anyone I felt needed to be ratted out.

I worked the night shift at juvenile detention and a youth shelter from '82 to '85.  So, lotsa times.

A couple years ago, a schizophrenic neighbor left notes in my lawn about poisoning neighbors with "Jennifer the nurse."  He left similar notes next door about killing neighborhood dogs.  I found the note because I looked outside and saw him sitting on the back side of Jennifer's fence, writing notes and tossing them over the fence.  I took video.  Next door, they had already called the cops.

We told the deputy, dude was putting himself and others in danger by his actions.  She did nothing.  Two days later, dude's own mother called the cops on him for threatening to kill her.
