I remember back in the first days of the fast internet, the first thing that I encountered was conspiracy videos, and I kind of think that was a trend for most people. I think the first video I ever saw on the internet was like Alex Jones's "documentary" on 9/11.
And I guess before youtube, videos were kind of a rare thing on the internet. The most prevalent place was Google videos which also featured some of the conspiracy "documentaries" that became like a cultural reference for the 2000s.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
