I've never used Slack because it's closed source. Matrix is an open source alternative that might be worth looking into.
Though I heavily assume everyone on Slack is comfy there and I'm probably spitting into the wind (especially being so new.) Also the Subgenius reference isn't lost on me either. But since enough theists come here to shill Jesus, so I might as well shill my love for FOSS.
